Embarassing Moment

Sunday, we got to church late (our creaky bones, sore muscles, and "old age" slowed us down a little) and were standing near the door at the back. I was holding Knox and during communion while everyone was earnestly quietly praying, he reached over and unbeknownst to me, started pushing buttons on the control panel at the door (we meet in a hotel).
Quick as a wink, he had the overhead speakers playing loudly, and he was working on dimming the lights. Of course, everyone laughed after they figured out what was going on and he thought he had made a funny.
Only his parents were embarassed, especially when mention was made in the sermon about "disco communion". We are thankful for a church that loves children in spite of their foibles.

We've been outside again!

What a weekend!! Mid 80's here this weekend and thats seems to be quite high even for SC for this time of the year. No complains though---we love the warm weather. All of us spent all day outside on Saturday. We finished up building the garden beds, and mixed a lot of compost and peat moss and vermiculite. I planted two of the boxes in the evening.

Knox began the day wearing a t-shirt, shorts, socks, and shoes. He greatly enjoyed digging in the dirt and quickly moved to wallowing in the pile of compost. He was covered with dirt (cow, chicken, cricket manure, etc), so he was hosed down by his father.

He was then stripped of the wet, stinky clothes and was changed into a clean diaper, clean t-shirt and shorts. The shoes were all wet at this point so since it had warmed up to 80 or so, he went barefoot. Naturally, I thought a nap would be in order so he was put into his crib for a while, but he stayed awake and was singing, so I got him back up and took him outside.

He helped plant lethadora and coreopsis, snapdragons, and dianthus, and a few dusty millers in the front flower beds and then helped wash two cars. I guess he was thinking, "Finally, a pot of water that they LET me play in!" But he loved washing cars wholeheartedly. Soon, he was soaked again and was AGAIN stripped and changed, this time into shorts only. He played some more and finally went down for a nap around 5:30. I couldn't believe how long he stayed awake--he played and worked so hard all day. I am getting out the little baby pool, his swim trunks and his disposable swimmies for him this week, since the high forecast for the next 10 days at least 70 degrees everyday.

Checking in.....

It was warm again today...I am loving this weather! We've been spending as much time outdoors as we can. We got almost all the branches picked up in the yard last Saturday and I cleaned out the front flowerbeds. I am ready to plant lettuce, radishes, kolrabi, snow peas and sweet peas this coming weekend. Shawn helped me with the garden beds last night and I have one ready to plant. Yay!! Its supposed to be in the high 60's or 70's all week. I love springtime in the South.

I'm in charge of snacks for Care Group tomorrow night and we are expecting company on Thursday evening for dinner, so I made 3 9 x 13 pans of bar cookies tonight--PB & J Cookies, Blondies with Walnuts, and some Brownies. I'll also take some pretzels and cheese nips and have sweet tea. Shawn will make that tomorrow afternoon.

I had to make a grocery store run tonight for margarine--of all things. I don't think I have ever run out or had less than two sticks in the fridge ever since I moved into my own place in 1997. I've switched over to butter recently since we started eating more whole foods, but I refuse to pay $3.42 for a pound of butter. Knox went along to help shop. He loved the peanut butter chips and held them all the way to the checkout. He even carried them into the house for me. He was disappointed that he couldn't help bake tonight, but I wanted to get it all finished before bedtime.

Thats all for now.

Springtime!!!

Its springtime here in South Carolina! No time for blogging!

I have been working on fixing up our guest room into Knox's room, which is involving paint and moving/getting rid of furniture. Also, we are working on our Square Foot Gardening. I have seedlings planted and am building the boxes. I have also been spring cleaning, rearranging, and decluttering. I have been thru all the kitchen cabinets, and Knoxes clothes and my clothes.

Last night we grilled hamburgers outside and ate outside---it was 79 degrees yesterday. Knox loved the warm weather and loved the novelty of eating outside. We stayed out til dark, cleaning up branches, eating and working on the garden boxes.

We've been leaving the windows wide open during the day because of the paint fumes, but also just to enjoy the nice spring breezes. It just feels so wonderful to sleep with the cool air blowing over you and hearing the birds singing in the morning.

Knox thinks he is pretty cool. He knows that the red light means stop and the green light means go and he can tell you. he also has figured out the difference between "Lay down" and "Get up". He is very obedient to actually lay down in his crib when asked, but wants to argue about it. I had to tell him to Obey the 1st time! So he laid down and every so often I heard, "dit op!" and giggling. I guess he thinks its a game.

He is also feeding himself with a fork and spoon. He is very helpful now, and his biggest desire is to cook. He helped bake cookies, and loved eating dough. He loves to close doors for me, pick up trash and toys. He even enjoyed picking up branches outside last night with me. He has the tune to "Tractor, Tractor" down pat, and can be heard singing while he plays.
