Knoxster Speaks

The Knoxster would like to inform everyone that he had so much fun at the book store tonight while waiting on Daddy. The green carpet was different than any he had seen before and he made lots of lines with his fingertips.

He also wants everyone to know that mandarin oranges and graham crackers are a wonderful bedtime snack.

He wishes to inform you that night-night is not as great as his parents would like everyone to believe.

And that he can take his jammie bottoms and his bib off all by himself.

Also feeding Mommy graham crackers is such fun. He also wanted me to reiterate that going to sleep is not fun!

This and That

Seems to me that summer is racing by, and its just begun....its been typical for SC though, very hot and humid and thunderstorms almost everyday. The rain has been good for the flowers in my front yard--and also the weeds. I finally got a chance to weed them out today and had several weeds that were 2 feet high. I distinctly remember weeding this flowerbed in the not too distant past....

We've been shed building, my Hunny and I, and it seems to be taking a while, but we've been working on it together. Nothing like a project outdoors in the heat to bring out the crankiness in me....I have several other projects in the back of my mind when this is done, like a picnic table and some garden boxes. I'd like to try square foot gardening. A coworker has said it is the best for raised bed gardening and he sent me the pictures to prove it. I'm going to buy the book used from Amazon.com, though. And build my own boxes.

Hunny is doing well in his EMT classes, but I will be ready, oh so ready, to be done with them.....He has been accepted into all his programs at Memphis and is registered for fall classes. All he has left to do is get his books.

Knoxster is turning into a rough and tumble little boy and loves to tussle with his Daddy. He is working on his 4th tooth, and has discovered the joys of brushing his teeth. He also loves to watch us brush ours---I don't think its quite as hilarious as Knox thinks it is, though. He has decided to delay bedtime as much as he can. Standing in the crib with the lights out is so much fun....I should know. They tell me that I did that as a child as well.

Of course, there always is the never ending laundry, cleaning, dishes and meals to prepare. We've been eating lots of sandwiches and fresh fruit since we are gone 3 nights a week. I think we are keeping the Sam's Club bakery in business. Their sub rolls are wonderful. Add deli ham or roast beef, and some cheese from Aldi's....Shawn is turning out to be a gourmet chef.

Aldi's has had some great prices on fruit this summer. Fresh pineapple has been running about 1.49 to 1.69 here. I like to grill a few pieces when I have pork chops or steaks.

And I am excited as well...I received word yesterday that I got the promotion at work that I had applied for. Better hours, new different things to do, and a very nice pay raise. I'd still rather stay at home with Knox, but while Shawn is in school fulltime, I need to work. So I thought I might as well apply for the job. I got more of a raise than I expected, so that is a real praise to God.

I put away all my craft things and sewing for the summer. No reason to even try anything extra at this point. This winter I will have more time to work on scrapbooks and sewing, since I will be home earlier.

We have started going to a new church and are really enjoying the solid Bible teaching and real fellowship. My Hunny was looking for a church with Reformed theology, and also one with a great sense of community. We have starting going to Care Group on Wednesday evenings, and that has been a real blessing to both of us. Knox gets to socialize with other kids and he loves that after being with Daddy all day at home! This church is a 3 year old church plant, and I honestly do not know why we had never heard of them before. Everyone in Care Group has connections to people we already knew from our old church. The only downside is the fact that it is one more drive into Greenville, instead of a 5 minute skip-and-a-jump to the church down the road.

We had one more coon on the front porch again, and a baby possum, that didn't know that when a person comes out swinging a broom that its time to leave the area and take cover. Rusty is getting chubby again.

One last parting comment....last Thursday morning, we had a very small herd of cattle (about 4) briskly making their way into Pickens. They were smart cows and were not on the road but on the edge of our yard. It was the strangest sight I have seen in a while. (The emu's chasing cars down the road is probably the strangest ever.) I have a witness also. He thought that I was kidding, playing an April Fool's joke a couple of months late.

I haven't been blogging as much because I've been too busy. I have a 10 month old to play with and he is infinitely more fun than sitting on the computer. This fall I won't be quite as busy, and won't be outside as much.

Happy Father's Day, Daddy!

Knox - 10 months old

"Oh, go your selfish way and free,

But hampered I would rather be,

Yes, rather than a kingly crown

I would be, what you term, tied down;

Tied down to dancing eyes and charms,

Held fast by chubby, dimpled arms,

The fettered slave of girl and boy,

And win from them earth's finest joy."

Thrift Store Find!

This was my only purchase of the week...we worked on our shed on Saturday so I didn't go out to yard sale. This is from my favorite thrift store--and Friday was the 1/2 price on household and bric a brac.

I asked my husband what he thought it was----
He said, "An ashtray with a Bible verse."

One of my friends has a pewter bread plate like this and I have eaten many warm slices of her homemade bread on it. I can't wait to start using my new plate.

In Which Knox Goes Swimming.....

....and in which the Knoxster got his very first popsicle!

I have such fond memories of summer, and swimming pools, or sprinklers, and getting popsicles to eat on a very hot afternoon! I hope to carry on the tradition with Knox. Yesterday definitely qualified as hot---someone at church said it was 96 degrees yesterday! Knox did not want to get out of the itsy-bitsy baby wading pool.

Another Update On Thomas:

Here is Friday's email update:
Dear friends, Thomas went today for a checkup-- all blood counts looked good-- Thomas is continuing on the increased dose of seizure medicine-- we go again Monday for blood work. please pray: 1. That God will be Glorified in all of this 2. Pray that the chemo will eliminate the brain tumors-- that it will work miraculously 3. That Thomas' body will be protected from the dangerous side effects of the chemo. 4. Pray that Thomas will not have anymore seizures 5 . Pray that Thomas will be able to sleep at night(the steroids he is on make it very hard to sleep) 6. pray for protection of our other 2 sons, josh and zack 7.that God will honor Thomas faithfulness and give him a healing miracle. earlier this week as I fell into a worried /scared/stressed "mode" ( I try to hide all of that from Thomas but, usually he can see right through me) Thomas told me, " mom, quit worrying-- it is a sin-- quit being scared -- God has a plan -- don't be stressed out -- God is in control -- mom, my God spoke the world into existence in 6 days, he can handle 5 brain tumors. " thank you Thomas, for speaking truth to me in my absolute weakness -- our church has added Thomas to their website: www.ccpickens.org click on urgent prayer needs/request -- all emails sent so far are posted and also some pictures of Thomas-- we thank you for your prayers for Thomas, they are Thomas hope. we are humbled by the outpouring of prayer for Thomas and thank God for His leading all of you to pray--please keep praying. Article on Rachael Ray

My husband sent me this World Magazine link to a great article about Rachael Ray. Thought there would be some that would enjoy this.

G.K. Chesterton said that there is no such thing as a boring subject. There
are only bored persons. Everything in God's creation is intrinsically
interesting, though we are so dull-minded that we often miss the wonder of
it
all.......

I wanna walk! I wanna walk!

Life in the World of the Knoxster: The Knoxster has started cruising....he has discovered that when his feet move, he goes somewhere. He still hasn't mastered pulling up on things, although he can hold onto my hands and pull himself to a sitting or standing position. He can get around the edge of the crib. He can go from the couch to the coffee table, plus he can clear the coffee table of all paper products in less than 2 minutes. Plus, he wants to pet the Kitty. He is determined to move. He's gotta get to that cat!
He is also the proud owner of 3 teeth--the 3rd of which started coming in this week, amid much trial and suffering.
We have also discovered that he loves motorcycles, cars and going to the park. He also thinks the greeters at Sam's Club are cute---even if they are seasoned citizens.....
Reading books is also fun. He loves Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! Gotta love those letters falling out of the coconut tree......
He does not enjoy going night-night, which may be the only times during the day that he cries!
He loves his DaDa and AhAh! ;-)

How to Make Breadsticks

A bloggable moment:

Hunny Dearest is watching the final round of The Apprentice "because one of the projects was about hockey."
I suspect that he has been watching food commercials since he comes wandering out into the dining room hungry for........toast.

Huh? (I don't remember the last time he ate toast.)

Or maybe some breadsticks. That sounds much more like him.

Could you help me?

Sure.

"Wow, you twist them as you unroll them!!" (We go gourmet around these here parts---genuine store brand in a can.)

Unrelated:
Coming up on the 11 o'clock news:
Two people arrested for cemetary theft.

"How hard would it be to steal a cemetary?"

Seriously hard, like sailing a garage.
